Mr. Rooney’s Workplace Wellness Tip
– Workplace Trust
by Mr. Art
“The Chief” Rooney
T-R-U-S-T.
That’s a tall order with me. I continually come in contact with
people daily where I determine my level of trust in our
relationship. If we don’t have a trustful relationship, I’m
snarling. If I like you, my tails wagging (smiling) as I trust you
around those I love and care about.
The same holds
true in the workplace. Every workplace moment is a time for us to
make deposits or withdrawals in the First National Bank of Workplace
Trust. The account holder is not you but the other person in the
relationship.
From project
meetings to short hallway conversations, we are making a deposit or
withdrawal in their account. The bank balance shows itself when you
need to deliver news that is counter productive to what the other
person values. A small balance can show itself in the form of
anger, sarcasm and an unwillingness to cooperate. A large balance
will yield interest in the form of support, understanding, and a get
it done attitude to name a few.
TIP: Make continual
positive deposits in each associates “trust bank”. This can be
accomplished by:
®
Creating a
positive environment
®
Enabling them to
feel physically and emotionally safe and secure with those whom they
work with and for. No bullies, brow beating, or micromanaging.
®
Listening to
their ideas making sure they are heard and validated regardless of
the eventual outcome
®
Appreciating
their contribution to individual projects and the overall company
vision
®
Being honest in
corporate and individual relationships
®
Valuing their
individual skills and differences
Trust is an
important core value. When we rub against it the wrong way, we cash
out with long term impact. Take out a high yield account in the
First National Bank of Workplace Trust and see the interest in you
and the company grow. |
